Banks Homes x BLOCC Interiors
As the days grow shorter and the air takes on a crisper edge, what we need from our homes begins to change, gone are the light, hot days of summer and in come the chilly nights of winter – and with them a need for interiors that warm our cooler days and brighten our darker evenings
Here are our favourite 5 tips inspired by current interior trends to cosy your homes ready for Autumn/Winter.
Earth Tones
Autumn is the ideal time to embrace warming earth tones like olive, ochre, rust and clay. These shades will bring a grounding energy to a space and create a warm and welcoming ambiance. Go all in by taking these colours to the walls or start small by bringing in terracotta vases, honey-coloured fringed cushions or forest green textured throws. The Beaumont Show Home at our Cathedral Meadows development, was designed with this palette in mind. Where a natural palette of rich nature-inspired hues flow throughout the home from walls to décor to create a cohesive design that feelings cosy and nurturing. Perfect for staving of the chilly air.
Statement Lighting
Statement lighting is key for brightening up dark winter evenings at home. In the Kirkham Show Home, we opted for sculptural feature lighting in each of the rooms complemented by smaller additional lighting such as task lighting, table lamps or floor lamps to illuminate corners and reading nooks. Brightening your home this time of year is key for navigating winters darker evenings. For minimal effort, maximum effect, we recommend simply changing your bulbs from cool to warm tones for a softer interior glow.
Colour Drenching for a Cocooning Effect
One of the most exciting trends for Winter 2024 has been colour drenching. This involves painting walls, ceilings, and even furniture in a single shade or similar tones to create an immersive and enveloping space. Dark navy hues or moody forest greens are perfect for creating a soothing atmosphere in living spaces or bedrooms — ideal for cocooning during those chilly evenings. If the idea of painting an entire room feels a bit overwhelming, take inspiration from our Kirkham Show Home for Cathedral Meadows. A dark blue sofa sits against a lighter, blue hue feature wall, demonstrating how you can scale down colour drenching to a specific zone. This approach creates a focal area that feels cosy and enveloping without overpowering the entire space.
Layered Textures
Layering is your seasonal best friend. Pile on soft throws, large knit blankets, and oversized cushions in sumptuous materials like velvet, faux fur, and chunky knit wool. Layers will help to make any room feel instantly more intimate and homely, adding in both texture and depth. Key winter textures such as boucle and velvet work incredibly well together, this pairing features beautifully in the Beaumont main bedroom, where the deep green velvet headboard contrasts perfectly with the cream boucle bench.
Seasonal charm
From real pumpkins trailing by your doorstep to fabric pumpkins used indoors, we couldn’t leave out this seasonal styling trend. Pumpkins in muted-tones or deep burgundy can be used as centrepieces in dining areas, along windowsills or fireplaces, and paired with eucalyptus, to create the perfect autumnal décor. This trend may not be for everyone, but it does bring in that charming seasonal spirit.
With any of the above tips you can change as much or as little as you need within your home to create the perfect winter retreat.
